Rochester March for Science

  • Martin Luther King Jr Park at Manhattan Square (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The Rochester NY March for Science and Science Expo will take place on April 22, 2017. The March and Expo are non-partisan efforts comprised of independent events put together by unaffiliated volunteer organizers in over 300 cities worldwide. In Rochester, our march will begin with a Rally for Science at MLK Park and end with a Science Expo at the Hyatt Regency. All events are free and open to the public.

The Rochester NY March for Science champions robustly funded and publicly communicated science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity. We unite as a diverse, nonpartisan group to call for science that upholds the common good, and for political leaders and policymakers to enact responsible evidence-based policies in the public interest.

The goals for our events are to humanize science, engage the public, and defend science. We strive to demonstrate the many ways that science is practiced by and for us all. We endeavor to engage with the public in an open dialogue about the value and potential of science. We seek to affirm science as a vital component of a free society, spurring innovation, critical thinking, increased understanding, and better, healthier lives for all people. We hold our leaders--both in science and in politics--accountable to the highest standards of honesty, fairness, and integrity.

If anyone is interested in participating as a volunteer or a sponsor, please feel free to contact: RocMarchforScience@gmail.com

Stronger Together WNY - People's Solidarity Rally

Organized By Action Together Rochester - Stronger Together WNY
with Planned Parenthood Of Central And Western New York Action Fund, Gay Alliance, Metro Justice, NOW

*******************************************************************

As witnessed by the recent election, there has been a profound deepening of the divisions in our country. Etched in history, these divisions cleave us from one another across the lines of racial, ethnic, religious, and sexual identity. Through this rally, we seek to address these divisions and stand together in the face of injustice. The work of this march is not only to stand together in solidarity for the protection of our rights, our safety, our families and our environment -- but it is also to build relationships and mend the divides between our communities.

The goal of the rally is to publicly voice opposition to the hate and division that have surfaced across the nation since the presidential election; stand in solidarity with marginalized groups; and support those participating in the Million Women March in Washington, D.C. and in similar rallies across the nation. We're part of a greater, national message that, combined with all the other rallies happening on and around Inauguration Day, shows people both inside the US and across the world, that the United States of America is a place where diversity is not just valued, but is recognized as an integral part of what makes our country great.
